How do Hosts receive their cleaning fare?

The Question Hosts Often Ask:

“If the guest pays for cleaning, why do I also pay commission on it? Shouldn’t that be just a pass-through to Tidyy?”

The Answer

At Huswell, all guest payments, including cleaning fees, are first collected by the OTA (e.g. Airbnb, Booking.com).

The OTA deducts its commission on the total amount the guest pays (rent + cleaning, excluding taxes), calculated excluding VAT, before sending the payout to Huswell.

Huswell then applies its standard commission, also calculated on the same full guest payment amount. After Huswell’s commission, the host receives the payout. The host then pays the Tidyy cleaning invoice directly.

This process is standard in the industry and ensures fairness and transparency:

  • OTA alignment: Major booking platforms always charge commission on the full guest payment (rent + cleaning), excl. VAT.

  • Fair play: If cleaning fees were excluded, some hosts could reduce nightly rates and inflate cleaning fees to avoid commission.

  • Consistency: Whether costs are presented as “rent” or “cleaning,” the host’s net result is treated consistently.

Example

  • Guest pays: €1,000 rent + €200 cleaning = €1,200 total

  • OTA commission (15% of €1,200, excl. VAT): – €180

  • OTA payout to Huswell: €1,020

  • Huswell commission (15% of €1,200, excl. VAT): – €180

  • Host payout from Huswell: €840

  • Host pays Tidyy invoice: – €200

  • Final host balance: €640

Key Takeaway

Both OTA and Huswell commissions are always calculated on the full guest payment (rent + cleaning), excl. VAT.

After these commissions, Huswell pays out the net rental income, and the host covers the Tidyy invoice separately.

👉 This approach is transparent, fair, and fully aligned with OTA industry standards.
